JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provides long term care nursing assistance including Medication Administration, Health Management, Legal and Ethical Issues, Nutrition and Metabolism, Elimination, Activity and Rest, Cognitive Perceptual Issues, Coping and Stress Issues, to a group of assigned residents. Meets the needs of the resident, family through implementation of the plan of care. Provides reinforcement of education to residents and families. The major job responsibilities for this position include: 1) Medication Monitoring.: Monitoring and reporting of resident's response to medications including side effects, adverse drug reactions and interactions, and behaviors. 2) Health Management: Understanding of the normals of aging. Identify and report the signs and symptoms of illness. Provide residents with self care deficits. Protect residents who are at risk for injury such as falls and infection. 3) Legal and Ethical Issues: Perform so as to ensure that resident's rights are promoted and protected. Implement the following practice guidelines: Abuse/Neglect, DNR, Dignity and Respect, Resident's Rights, Restraints and Comfort Care. Compliance with regulations required by State Board of Nursing, JCAHO, CMS, CDPHE. Feed residents with dysphagia. Promotes hydration in elderly residents. Identify and report oral and dental problems in the elderly. Monitor, recognize and report common skin problems in residents such as incontinence dermatitis and pressure points. 5) Elimination: Implement care plan for residents with constipation, fecal or urinary incontinence. Implement bowel and bladder retraining program. Perform urine dips on the elderly. Perform toileting according to facility protocol. 6) Activity and Rest: Promote care plan with respect to oxygenation, overexertion, and fatigue. Promote good sleep hygiene practices. Performs proper positioning of resident, Range of motion, Walk n dine. Recognize and report signs and symptoms of respiratory distress. Implement the care plan for residents with impaired physical mobility such as OA, Fractured Hip, Arthritis, MS Parkinsonism. 7) Cognitive-Perceptual: Implement appropriate behavior management techniques. Recognize and report altered cognition. Care of resident with sensory perceptual alterations such as vision impairment, deafness. Assessment and reporting of resident experiencing pain. 8) Coping and Stress: Implement care plan of residents with disturbances in self concept such as depression, mania, anxiety, grief, loss, powerlessness. 9) Technical Skills: competence in ROM, Walk n Dine, ADLs, Skin care and assessment, Mechanical Lifts, Transfers, POC testing, vital, specimen collections. 10) Supervision: Provide preceptorship to new employees. Medical Assistant works under the supervision of the Practice Manager and direction of the physician. This position performs a wide range of routine clinical and front office receptionist skills which includes but are not limited to:

MA is responsible also for greeting and providing a professional, organized reception to the patients, answering the telephone, scheduling appointments, registering patients, providing information and collecting payments. In addition, this position is responsible for a variety of clerical duties including creating or adding information to clinical electronic charts, scanning medical records, distributing reports, mail and faxes, maintaining tickler reports.
